Monday 7th July – walks **** Standing stone at Hisabost and Luskentyre beach – sunny periods :)

We woke to thick thick Fog!! Couldn’t even see the inlet where the ferry comes in. Had a game of lost cities then packed up and drove down into Tarbert to get some diesel and go to the shop (no co-op:() Drove down the west coast of Harris to nearly where the ferry came in then turned round and parked up at Brove beach just as the sun was burning off the fog, very beautiful but a bit fed up with poor weather. We had lunch then walked to a huge standing stone on the headland, called the MacLeod Stone. There was no mistaking this one, it was huge! We had a wonderful walk around the headland and back along the beach with our feet in the sea which is the most amazing colour with the sun on it :) Drove off a little further along the coast to Luskentyre and had a walk on the beach there. It is a truly stunning beach with great views over to Taransay (where the BBC filmed the castaway programme which made Ben Fogel famous) and over to the high mountains on North Harris. We walked a long way then decided to take our cuppa up into the sand dunes above the beach and stayed there reading and making the most of the beautiful evening (our first!) until 7.30. Drove a little way back along the Luskentyre inlet and parked up in a spot which is designated for camping for a £5 donation to the West Harris Trust charity through Paypal. We will do that when we get home because it is too fiddly to do on the phone and the line isn’t secure for that kind of thing. There were a lot of midges but just great to have the door open (with the mossie net up) and a beautiful sunny evening to enjoy. The tide is in and the surface of the water is like a mirror – definitely our best evening. I went for a walk round but Mag decided to stay in the van so she didn’t get eaten alive because even with the repellent on the midges just love her!
